1. Excelsior Jones

A beautiful destination café in the quieter back streets of Sydney’s Inner West suburb, Ashfield. The café is a result of the partnership of Jimmy Naylor & Anthony Svilicich.

They have a combination of a nice relaxed environment, excellent coffee, (a custom espresso blend supplied by 5 Senses), and a great menu. Highly recommend a visit, and when there, check out the custom matte black “Death Star” Synesso, and their traditionally hand painted sign by Gemma Lockley.

  3. Brickfields

This place looks fantastic @mecca_espresso team!! Beautiful new little bakery. Thanks for the invite, and congrats on the new project. Can’t wait to see it in action next year!

  7. Café Grumpy’s Heartbreaker

Morning espresso was @samplecoffeebar’s showcase espresso  - @cafegrumpy’s Heartbreaker (for today only). I was less than eloquent when Karl asked what I thought of it (the caffeine hadn’t kicked in yet), but it was surprising. It was crisp, with a tart, but pleasant, bite to the flavour. Impressed.

I then followed this up with a latté. I maintain that Reuben and Karl are amazingly talented. Always surprised at the sweetness of their lattés, the amazing texture of the milk, adding to the base layer espresso. Best lattés I’ve ever had, come from Sample Coffee Bar. (if you haven’t tried them, do so.)

Awesome short by Jake Davis about Bear Pond Espresso, a small espresso bar near Shibuya in Tokyo Japan. Bear Pond Espresso has also produced a book (in Japanese) titled: “Life is Espresso”
